Kandis Wallace became the first women in history to receive 4th degree burns when she mistakenly thought that she could receive a better tan using vegetable oil  in place of  the recommended   tanning lotion. "She believed that if vegetable oil did such a wonderful job on French fries and other products, then surely it would do the same for her," said the chief of police, Danny Crump.  He went on to say that, "The only thing she discovered was the ultimate burn." Kandis was burned to a crisp. Fire fighters tried desperately to put that fire out. By the time it was out the only thing that remained was a charred beach and a few black bones.. Dr. Philip Fetherham says, "She is in a better place. If she would have made it to the hospital, the medical cost and the severity of her injuries would have prevented her from living a normal happy life." The vegetable oil company was not available for comment but did release this statement, "Our vegetable oil did just what it was made to do, cook not tan"
