Lifeguard in India nearly kills swimmers

Arheel  - Ardleen Haree tried to do his job as best as he could, but as a 63 year old man, he was unable to keep outsiders from sneaking into the Bandhji Lake Swimming area. His job was clear -Charge swimmers 3 lupas BEFORE they took a dip in the small lake. That was income destined for a charitable cause, and Haree took his job very seriously.

One afternoon, the crowd of Indian Spring breakers became rowdy, and went through the turnstiles without paying the fee. Haree became furious, and picked up the largest stick he could find. As swimmers made their way back to the shore after their swim, Haree did not allow them to climb onto the sand. Says Haree -" They were bad bad bad boys...They didn't pay, now they must die !!" Police arrived on the scene and rescued 13 swimmers who had barely managed to stay afloat.

Says Narjeed Jarkeesh, a young swimmer who admitted he didn't pay the entry fee - " I was getting hit in the head every time I tried to get to shore...The old man had a stick and he was shooing me back into the water..I was dying..." Police have arrested the man, and have charged him with various crimes, including Attempted murder. Witnesses claim that Haree not only forced the swimmers back into the water, but picked boys up and tossed them alongside the other swimmers. His state was one of crazed, traumatic rage, and 5 burly policemen had to subdue him before he was taken to jail.
