"You're out in the sticks now," the man laughed. He glanced through the window
at almost opaque sheets of rain falling outside. "You might as well stay a
little while. While you're with us you'll have the illusion, at least, that
you're in a comfortable room."
What on earth is he talking about? Jason asked himself. Is he just a little
bit off? That last sounded like nonsense. Suddenly the woman spoke, "he better go,
John. It would be horrible if someone took his license number and people jumped
to conclusions afterwards. No one should know that he stopped here."
The man looked thoughtfully at Jason."I hadn't thought that far ahead. I'm
afraid, sir, that you'll have to leave," he told Jason, in a controlled voice.
Something extremely-strange, something you could not put your finger on.
Jason buttoned his coat with an air of affronted dignity. "I'll go."
